A Conversation with Kacie Carter, Mastermind Behind Honey Hi

Kacie Carter: chef, nutritionist, and the woman behind Honey Hi. She's created a community haven in LA's food scene, and we got a chance to chat with her about food, her journey, and why some oat milks are gonna be a hard no.

A Conversation with Kacie Carter, Mastermind Behind Honey Hi

Meet Kacie Carter, the inspiring force making waves in Los Angeles' bustling food scene. A holistic nutritionist, skilled chef, and the charismatic owner of Honey Hi, Carter has devoted her craft to creating delicious, nourishing meals that not only satisfy the taste buds but also nourish the body. Driven by her passion for holistic health and her love for culinary arts, she has created a sanctuary of wholesome foods that celebrate the power of nutrient-dense, sustainably sourced ingredients.

In an era where 'quick' and 'convenient' often supersede quality and nutrition, Honey Hi stands as a beacon, demonstrating that health and taste can harmoniously coexist. Under Carter's adept guidance, the cafe has seamlessly bridged the gap between hearty and healthy, serving dishes that are as visually stunning as they are deliciously compelling.

We've been planning a fun community pop-up at Honey Hi which will be this coming Saturday, June 10th from 12pm-3pm at their Echo Park location. In preparation for our party, we wanted to chat with Kacie about her culinary philosophy, the inception of Honey Hi, and what she's got in the works for the future. Read the full interview below, and if you're in Los Angeles, come enjoy a Magic Magnesium blue lemonade snow cone this Saturday!

CHELSIE: What sparked your interest in cooking?
KACIE: I came to cooking out of sheer desperation and necessity; in my early twenties I went through a devastating period of mystery chronic illness, which ended up being Lyme disease and a host of other issues. I chose to radically change my diet, learn about where my food was coming from and how it was affecting me, and fell in love with cooking through the process.

CHELSIE: Do you have a favorite farmer's market?
KACIE: Hollywood Farmer’s Market on Sunday will always have my heart.

CHELSIE: What's your favorite thing on your menu right now?
KACIE: Beans and Greens. I eat it 4-5x a week. Rancho Gordo Acayote black beans stewed with chipotle chilies and aromatics, with sautéed farmers market kale, confit leeks and garlic, a fried egg and salsa macha. I add our grass fed lamb & beef sausage.

CHELSIE: What's your favorite song right now?
KACIE: I’m getting married in a month and can’t stop listening to “Ascension” by Maxwell. It’s an eternal bop!

CHELSIE: What are you most nostalgic for?
KACIE: The carefree summers of childhood.

CHELSIE: Worst wellness trend right now?
KACIE: Oat milk emulsified with sugar and vegetable oil, no thank you!

CHELSIE: Number one essential daily habit?
KACIE: Going outside and getting sunlight before looking at my phone. It’s changed my life (and my hormones!) for the better.

CHELSIE: Something you're looking forward to?
KACIE: Growth & evolution through PLAY! We are exploring some new frontiers at Honey Hi in the next few years!

Got plans this Saturday? Now you do. Come hang with us at Honey Hi in Echo Park from 12p-3p. We're serving up some magic 🪄🍋 think blue lemonade snow cones with a magnesium twist. Plus, some special menu items we know you're gonna love. And did we mention gifts? Yeah, we've got those too. So, see you there? Cool.
