BTS With Adrianne Paerels Aka The Tomato Girl

Get ready to dive into the whimsical world of artist Adrianne Paerels, honorary member of the renowned #TomatoGirl trend. Known for her wearable art featuring delectable food-inspired designs, Adrianne has captured the hearts of many with her original pasta pants creation, inspired by her Italian roots and her grandmother's cherished pomodoro pasta recipe.

We chatted with Adrianne about her passion for food, and her artistic journey. We're stoked to share our very special, very limited edition collab with Adrianne this Thursday. Until then, read below.

CHELSIE: How does it feel to be THE #TomatoGirl?
ADRIANNE: OMG hahah I love it so much. I can't take credit for the movement, but I am honored to be a part of it. I got a cute little house in Jersey last year and decided to try my hand at (chaos) gardening. By the end of summer we were making spaghetti pomodoro every night with our own tomatoes. This year I added some new varieties I’m really excited about. I truly am about that life!

CHELSIE: What sparked your interest in food?
ADRIANNE: It's funny, I've been thinking about my late grandmother a lot and I kick myself when I remember all of the times she would have to persuade me to finish my food as a kid. I'd give anything to clean the plate now! My Italian grandparents passed in my late teens so in some ways my recent work honors the memories I have of them, many of which revolve around food.

CHELSIE: Do you have a favorite farmer's market?
ADRIANNE: A local friend of mine, Cozz Coffee, roasts and sells his own beans and sets up at farmers markets here in Jersey with this rad baby blue trailer where he slings affogato and espresso spritz. So I'm goin wherever he's at!

CHELSIE: What are your favorite things to do during summer?
ADRIANNE: The feasts and fairs! It’s not summer until I’ve stood in the heat eating zeppoles, leaning over the sidewalk so I don’t (but do) cover myself in powdered sugar. I'm also a big fan of hitting the beach with a sandwich and a limonata and lazing in the ocean.

CHELSIE: Working on any projects you're stoked about?
ADRIANNE: SO many! Right now I’m working on a project for this great deli and they asked for something totally new from me in terms of material so I'm really stoked; I love learning new art mediums. I'm so grateful for all of the people I've been able to meet and work with so far. I'm living in pure bliss.

CHELSIE: What's your favorite song right now?
ADRIANNE: This question makes me so anxious because I feel like I'll change my mind in five minutes. When I’m swamped I put on classical music. It helps me stay focussed - my thoughts and process start to flow with the cadence of the music, so I like the faster heavier tracks (I'm a reformed metalhead...)

CHELSIE: What are you most nostalgic for?
ADRIANNE: Oh GOSH...Everything!! My fiance calls me the nostalgia queen. Years ago I got a job at a bar in Hoboken, NJ just because my mom was a bartender there in the early 90s... But the town was artsy and cool back then and now it's way different so the vibes were not matched.

CHELSIE: Worst wellness trend right now?
ADRIANNE: I'm not one to judge! Everyone has their own journey so it's important to figure out what is best for you, even if that means popping in on some trends.

CHELSIE: Number one essential daily habit?
ADRIANNE: I'm a big make-your-bed person. It needs to be made before I start my day so that I know there's a nice fluffy cloud waiting for me when it's time to unwind.

CHELSIE: If you were an herb, which would it be and why?
ADRIANNE: Does garlic count?
