Lauren Haynes, clinical herbalist and founder of Wooden Spoon Herbs, is deeply rooted in the southern Appalachian Mountains, where she is inspired by the incredibly rich biodiversity and slow mountain living. Lauren’s family has been in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains for over five generations, and through Wooden Spoon she offers respect to both her lineage and the indigenous Creek and Cherokee inhabitants of the land.

Lauren first connected to natural remedies through an intense fascination intertwining her life with the natural realm. She devoted three years to rigorous clinical herbalism study under traditional folk herbalist Phyllis D. Light at the Appalachian Center for Natural Health. Lauren’s formal education and countless hours of direct relationship with the plants have helped her to emerge as a leading herbalist for a new generation of modern folk seeking holistic wellness.

Rather than tap into the booming global herb trade—where herbs are imported from myriad countries and travel countless miles—Lauren and her team focus on sourcing American-grown herbs directly from the farmers who grow them. The plants we work with have been gathered or grown with the utmost care and attention for maximal potency and flavor. We center respectful sustainability so you can tend your body while healing your relationship to the land that nourishes it.
